Well-known Cantonese dishes

There are a number of traditional Cantonese dishes, including Chinese steamed eggs, congee with lean pork and century egg, Cantonese fried rice, sweet and sour pork, stewed beef brisket, steamed spare ribs, steamed ground pork and blanched vegetables with oyster sauce.

Cantonese sauces

Cantonese cuisine uses a number of sauces and condiments, including spring onion, sugar, salt, soy sauce, rice wine, cornstarch, vinegar, scallion oil and sesame oil. Garlic can be used heavily in some dishes, while other spices are used sparingly, such as ginger, chili peppers, five-spice powder, white pepper and star anise.
